Last week our apartment complex was doing fire alarm testing and walkthroughs to ensure all fire safety equipment was up to code. They sent out an email encouraging people to not have their pets in the apartment during this time. We decided this would be a good opportunity for a bit of a road trip with our kitties and go to the Corpus Christi! Do they like being in the car? Not really, but they are cats and just kind of do their own thing anyways. So we loaded them up and headed for the Gulf of Mexico. From Austin it is a 3 hour and 6 minute drive (give or take with bathroom breaks), which for us midwesterners is no big deal.
We set the GPS for a beach on Padre Island and away we went! Luke had never been to a beach like this before, one where you can just drive out, park and go straight to the water. He had never seen the Gulf of Mexico. And it had been over 7 years since the last time either of us saw an ocean. This was long overdue. We left the car running for the babies and walked in. Luke had shorts on but Molly doesn’t plan very well ahead and only had her jeans on. But clothes can be washed amiright?! We waded out for a little bit and stood there to to take it all in. The sights, the sounds, the smells and the feel of the amazing breeze coming at us. Since it was the first week of December it wasn’t all that hot either.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay very long because it is a 3 hour drive and we don’t want to keep the cats in the car for that long. We said see ya later to the gulf and stopped to get Molly another pair of pants at a Torrid in Corpus Christi so she wouldn’t be miserable for the ride home. We cannot wait to go back and enjoy it more!
