The year 2018 brought so much joy and showed more growth than years before! It’s so crazy to look back and see how we started the year vs how we finished. We experimented with things we have never done before that turned into a success! This year we shot brighter and darker than ever before. We began to push ourselves with our camera settings to be able to shoot in all sources of light. We embraced the harsh light of the Minnesota sun and the dark clouds of an Arkansas thunderstorm.
The end of July 2017 we were asked to speak and teach at The Real Workshop in Petit Jean state park in Arkansas for the second year of its existence. That time finally came this past July! We road tripped 12 hours to get there and spent 4 days with other like minded creatives. We had an absolutely wonderful time connecting with photographers from Tennessee, Alabama and Colorado. We spoke the second day about boudoir and how we use our empathy to get the best photos of our clients that we possibly can. After that we taught a crash course in posing. That same day, just shortly after our teaching, a freak rainstorm hit. Those of us brave enough started shooting whoever was outside and we got some truly amazing, creative and emotive images. The rest of the time we mentored the attendees, gave our advice during live shoots and gave input when they had questions.
What we like to capture is real and tangible. Real life. Real smiles. Real love. Our goal is to capture emotion, movement and life how it should be. Our focus this year was our take on family sessions. We don’t want the “every one looking at the camera and smiling photos”. We want the real ones. Much like what you take on your phone in the day in, day out life, just better quality so that you can hang them in your home. Let your kids be kids mom and dad. And then you be yourselves too! We always make time for parents during our family sessions.
Without further ado here are some of our favorite images from 2018! We are excited to see where 2019 takes us!
